Our Activities

RESCUE.  Solitude is dedicated to saving neglected or slaughter-bound Morgan horses.  We take surrendered horses as space permits.  Following their period in off-site quarantine and their transportation to us, they are seen by our farrier for hoof trims and our veterinarian to receive shots, dental work, sheath cleaning or pregnancy check, and gait analysis.   Health issues are identified which  will impact their suitability for adoption.  Within the next few weeks they are socialized in a small herd, brought into the barn for feeding and grooming, learning to stand tied and have their feet handled - all with respect for their handler's space.

TRAINING. Following their orientation period, their training readiness is assessed.  The initial focus  is on groundwork in the round pen with tack and learning voice commands on the lunge line.  The goal is rhythm and relaxation in their work before they begin saddle training.  We use area trainers who can incorporate trail riding . The goal is to provide each adoption candidate with 60-90 days of saddle training.

ADOPTION.   After time in the training barn, horses are marketed as suitable for light riding, project horses needing training homes, or sound and suitable at walk/trot/canter for arena and/or trail riding.  We have a few who have special needs making them suitable as pasture companions only.  Horses are not available for adoption until they are 4 years of age.
